The whole stems are used for making thick sleeping mats, and bags. It is one of the coarsest sedges in the country. It is a large, erect, and aquatic or marshy herb plant. It has triangular stems that measure 2 m high. It can be found in central Luzon to Mindanao and in most islands and provinces, abounding in fresh water swaps, and in newly opened rice land at low altitudes.
